149 | When with Jeff Wellen

What do you wish you knew when you first got started?

We spend way too much wondering how things could have been different, but we also don’t spend nearly enough time learning from people ahead of us to make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes.

Our guest today Jeff decided to write a book titled When: Things I Wish I Knew When I Was STARTING OUT, STARTING OVER, and Trying To GET AHEAD.

Jeff has spent the last 38 years traveling a journey of success, failure, the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. A journey that started with a desire to be a teacher that was put on hold by a new desire to become a leader of a company.

Now after a successful career as a senior executive for companies like Michaels, Fossil and Haggar,  Jeff has come back to where his journey started.  The desire to teach and mentor.  He wants to help individuals and companies reach their full potential. His passions are two-fold.

First, is to help individuals realize how to get the most out of themselves.  To help assist them with getting rid of all the anchors of doubt that weigh people down and stop them from finding their true passion.  He wants you to find fulfillment in your life and career.  His belief is not just to dream the impossible but actually do it.

Second, Jeff’s corporate experience can still prove invaluable for any company that is looking to make a change or trying to figure out how to get out of troubled waters.

Have you ever felt stuck?

I think at some point we have felt stuck unable to move past something.  For Veterans this can often be feeling stuck in war, on active duty, or unable to transition out successfully.

Today is a powerful episode on how it’s not our fault, for most of us we have never experienced powerful rituals in our life to move from one state to the next.

Frederick Marx is an internationally acclaimed, Oscar and Emmy nominated director/writer with 40 years in the film business. He was named a Chicago Tribune Artist of the Year, a Guggenheim Fellow, and a recipient of a Robert F. Kennedy Special Achievement Award.

His film HOOP DREAMS (1994) is one of the highest grossing non-musical documentaries in United States history and the International Documentary Association named it “The Best Documentary of All Time”.

He recently has released a documentary only on Apple TV called a Veterans Journey Home: Leaving it on the Land

How often are we just running towards the next outcome in life.  I find it often when I look back in my life that I didn’t slow down enough before making a big decision in my life.  Today I am talking with Jim Crider and he has a great story of having setting himself up right and spending the time to know where he wants to go.
